Slot Glossary

29 terms every slot player should know — explained with Bonanza Billion examples where relevant. No marketing jargon.

Autoplay

A setting that spins the reels automatically for a set number of rounds. You pick how many spins and optional stop conditions (like stopping on a bonus trigger or when your balance drops below a threshold). Useful for grinding through base game spins without clicking every time.

Base Game

Regular gameplay before any bonus features trigger. Most of your spins happen here. In high-volatility slots like Bonanza Billion, the base game usually pays small or nothing — the big wins come from features.

Bonus Buy (Feature Buy)

Lets you skip the base game and jump directly into a bonus round for a fixed cost — usually 50x to 500x your bet. Bonanza Billion offers a Buy Bonus at roughly 100x stake that drops you straight into Free Spins. Not available in all jurisdictions; the UK bans it entirely.

Cascading Reels (Tumble)

After a win, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place. This can chain multiple wins from a single spin. Bonanza Billion uses this mechanic on every spin — and during Free Spins, each cascade also adds +1x to a persistent multiplier.

Cluster Pays

A win mechanic where matching symbols need to form a connected group (cluster) rather than lining up on a payline. Typically requires 5+ matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically.

Scatter Pays

A pay mechanic where 8+ matching symbols anywhere on the grid trigger a win — no paylines, no adjacency rules. Bonanza Billion runs entirely on this system across its 6×5 layout. Land 8 candies of the same kind and you collect, regardless of where they sit.

Dead Spin

A spin that returns absolutely nothing — zero payout. In high-volatility slots like Bonanza Billion, dead spins are common. That's not a bug; it's how the math model works. Budget accordingly and don't chase losses after a dry streak.

Feature Trigger Rate

How often a bonus feature activates, usually expressed as '1 in X spins.' Bonanza Billion's Free Spins trigger roughly 1 in 150 base spins through natural scatter landings. You can find these stats in the game's info panel or math sheet from BGaming.

Free Spins

Bonus rounds triggered by landing scatter symbols (usually 3+). You get a set number of spins at no cost. Bonanza Billion features Scatter Pays, Cascading Wins, Free Spins, Progressive Multiplier, Buy Bonus — Free Spins activate the Progressive Multiplier that climbs +1x per cascade. Extra scatters during the round can add more spins.

Hit Frequency

How often a slot lands any winning combination. A 25% hit frequency means roughly 1 in 4 spins pays something. Bonanza Billion sits around 27% — a solid base rate driven by the Scatter Pays mechanic, which fires whenever 8+ identical candies land anywhere on the grid.

Max Win

The absolute maximum a slot can pay on a single spin, expressed as a multiplier of your bet. Bonanza Billion caps at 5,000x. Once hit, the round ends immediately regardless of remaining features. Most players never reach this — it's a theoretical max win.

Max Win Cap

The absolute ceiling on a single spin's payout. Once reached, the game stops the round immediately — even if you had remaining free spins with multipliers building. Bonanza Billion caps at 5,000x. The round ends, your balance updates, and you're back to base game. This cap protects the casino's liability.

Megaways

A mechanic by Big Time Gaming where the number of symbols per reel changes each spin, creating up to 117,649 ways to win. Bonanza Billion doesn't use Megaways — it uses Scatter Pays on a 6×5 grid, where 8+ matching symbols anywhere pay.

Multiplier

A value that multiplies your win. A 10x multiplier on a $5 win = $50 payout. In Bonanza Billion, the Progressive Multiplier inside Free Spins starts at x1 and climbs +1x per cascade — it never resets during the bonus, which is how the 5,000x max win becomes reachable.

Paylines

Predefined lines across the reels where matching symbols must land to form a win. Bonanza Billion has no traditional paylines at all — it uses Scatter Pays, where 8+ matching symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid trigger a win.

Paytable

The reference chart showing what each symbol pays for different combination lengths (3, 4, or 5 of a kind). Access it through the game's info or settings menu. Premium symbols always pay more than card symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10).

Progressive Multiplier

A multiplier that accumulates across multiple spins instead of resetting between rounds. In Bonanza Billion's Free Spins, every cascade adds +1x to a running multiplier that applies to all subsequent wins inside the bonus. A x15 multiplier paired with a 15-symbol scatter cluster is exactly how 5,000x payouts get reached.

RNG (Random Number Generator)

The algorithm that determines every spin outcome. Certified by independent labs (like eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI) to ensure fairness. Each spin is completely independent — previous results have zero influence on future ones. There's no such thing as a slot being 'due' for a win.

RTP (Return to Player)

The theoretical percentage of wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. Bonanza Billion has an RTP of 96.00%. That doesn't mean you'll get back that exact percentage in your session — it's a long-term statistical average. Short sessions can deviate wildly in either direction.

Scatter

A special symbol that triggers features regardless of its position on the grid — it doesn't need to land on a specific payline. In Bonanza Billion, 3+ scatter symbols trigger Free Spins. More scatters mean more starting spins, and re-triggers add rounds without resetting the Progressive Multiplier.

Session Variance

The gap between your actual results and the theoretical RTP. Bonanza Billion has 96.00% RTP, but a 500-spin session can return anywhere from 40% to 180% of your wager. That's normal. Don't judge a slot's fairness from a single session — you need thousands of spins for results to converge toward the published RTP.

Sticky Wild

A Wild symbol that stays in place for multiple spins instead of disappearing after one round. Common in Free Spins modes. Bonanza Billion doesn't use sticky wilds — its bonus mechanic relies on the Progressive Multiplier and cascade chains rather than persistent symbols.

Volatility (Variance)

How a slot's payouts are distributed. High volatility = rare but large wins, long dry spells. Low volatility = frequent small wins, steadier balance. Bonanza Billion is rated High volatility. Expect patience-testing base game stretches punctuated by long cascade chains during Free Spins.

Ways to Win

An alternative to paylines where matching symbols on adjacent reels (left to right) count as wins regardless of row position. A 5×3 grid with ways-to-win has 243 possible combinations. Bonanza Billion skips both paylines and ways-to-win — it counts identical symbols anywhere on the grid via Scatter Pays.

Wild

A symbol that substitutes for any regular symbol to complete winning combinations. It doesn't replace scatters or other special symbols. Bonanza Billion's candy theme uses standard wild substitution within the Scatter Pays system — wilds count toward the 8+ matching threshold for paying clusters.

Win Distribution

How a slot's total payouts are spread across different win sizes. High-volatility slots like Bonanza Billion are 'top-heavy' — a small percentage of spins account for most of the total payout. Long cascade chains during Free Spins, paired with the Progressive Multiplier, deliver the bulk of 96.00% RTP returns.

Bonus Buy Restrictions

Some countries ban the ability to purchase bonus rounds directly. The UK prohibits bonus buy since October 2021. Sweden caps bet sizes. Other markets have similar rules. In Bonanza Billion, the 100x Buy Bonus may be greyed out or hidden depending on where you're playing.

BGaming

The provider behind Bonanza Billion. BGaming is a Curaçao-based studio known for its candy and crypto-themed slots, certified RNG output, and provably fair variants on selected titles. Their math models tend toward high-volatility cascade systems with capped max wins.

Cascade Chain

A sequence of consecutive cascades on a single spin. Bonanza Billion averages 2–3 cascades per winning spin in the base game. Chains of 4+ happen roughly 1 in 30 winning spins; chains of 6+ are where session-defining payouts hide, especially when the Free Spins multiplier is climbing.
